eco chemie

I recently bought my very own copy of India Flint's book, Eco Colour. I was so happy when it was delivered. I've have read almost the whole book now (and i'm not a quick reader). It's such a beautiful book to look into and it's so full of knowledge! It's like an eco colour bible. I recommend everyone who does anything with dyeing fabric to buy this book, it will pay back in knowledge!

I already tried out some things. I bought on the market in Rotterdam some interesting red leaves. When i came home i looked them up in my big plant bible (handy remains from my florist education). And found out that it is in latin "cotinus coggygria 'royal purple' " from the family Anacardiaceae in dutch it is called "pruikenboom" which literally means wigs-tree (as in fake hair) hihi.

I did a test to see if there was some interesting things to be substracted, and there was a magic red-ish pink in there.

After that i tried one of the methodes from the book and sucsesfully substracted color from my leaffy friends, the final result was quiet dark red. I diluted it with different kinds of mordants and poured into empty jars. The colour changed with the different mordants. The super bright red-ish pink has vinigar as mordant, the greenish looking one is with ash water and the blue-ish one is with a pinch of alum and water. I put some premordanted cotton and some woolyarn in all jars and closed the lids. Now it's just waiting for a nice result! On to the next project!
