This week I've been a busy bee perfecting my "Leaves Impression" collection for a new and improved Artshop and exhibition of the Centre of Art of Rotterdam. They exist for 30 years and celebrate this by having a wonderful exhibition called "de Geheime Tuin" which translates into "Secret Gardens". The very Exciting thing is that I will be featuring most of my "leaves Impression" Collection in their new and improved shop! If you are in Rotterdam and have time on the 5th of April around 17.30, come and join me for a drink at this amazing opening! Check their website for more details.

Dutch Designweek WNF auction

During the dutch designweek in Eindhoven there is a special auction for WNF.

WNF Asked me to donate a scarf from the Leaves Impression Collection to this wonderful auction, and off course I said yes to this very good initiative! I've selected a beautiful scarf of the eucalyptus dyed collection Leaves Impression that also featured in the issue of Libelle Balance before!
This WNF auction is filled with beautiful products that are made with good materials or have interesting subjects that stimulate consciousness or are made from recycled materials.

Most important of all is that all the income of this auction will go to a good cause, so we all donate to the good cause! What nicer than that? Well, you also have a chance to start bidding on my scarf for a very reduced price! So check out the website, make a beautiful bid of at least 50 euro, and maybe you are the lucky owner of this beautiful hand dyed antung silk scarf! And next to that the highest bidder will also receive next to the scarf a personal letter from me explaining the whole dyeproces, a businesscard and a beautiful card from the Leaves Impression Collection. You can also start bidding on E-bay so be quick to try to be the highest bidder on this beauty because the auction closes at the 30th of October 18.00! Here is a direct link to this beautiful scarf on the auction website. And don't forget, it's all for a good cause!

sharing news and capturing sun

I have some great news to share with you all!

I applied for the fashion event in Maastricht some time ago called "fashionclash" because the creator of this interesting event encouraged me to apply and well, that I did. I applied for the exhibition part with my graduation project "zaaisieraden" from the collection "seeds of wonder" and with an exciting new project I wanted to make now for a while. I thought this was the perfect chance to let this get it's premiere, and guess what! Both projects got selected! I am over the moon and a bit nervous, the fashionclash event will be in June. So I've ordered fabrics and I am going to start very quickly with the first experiments for this new and experimental project. I will keep you up to date and uncover later on what this mysterious project is about!

next to that ,

A stylist for a dutch magazine, found me on the internet and contacted me, she wanted to use my work in a fashion photoshoot where every item was eco! I loved the concept she explained to me and that resulted in that I send her as soon as I could some scarfs of my collection "leaves Impression". The nicest thing is that the photoshoot was in Miami! I am very very proud, my darlings travelled around the world and came back to me after their adventures still as beautiful as before. The magazine will appear in July and of course I will keep you up to date when it will appear exactly!

I was a bit jealous off my lucky scarfs that got to travel all the way to sunny Miami. Luckely I could capture some sun because I got the chance to dye a big eco wool blanket with eucalyptus for a client, it turned out beautiful! Enjoy some photo's of the process of dyeing and I've also added some photo's of the end result! And before I forget Let me thank my sweet mother who helped me with this big heavy project! Without her I couldn't have made this beauty!

And here the result after a long day of work and a lot of patience! The result is a large eco woolen blanket with a scattered leaf print of eucalyptus. It's on it's way to the lucky buyer!

I'm alive! And kicking!

It has been much to long ago that I posted something! So no excuses and let's just catch up with everything that happend! Because there has happend a lot! I haven't posted in a while because I started to illustrate a story written by my father that we will try to get published! Below some sketches, it is far from finised so these are sketches.

Besides that I've been asked by the Textile Museum of Tilbrug (NL) to design and make a collection of ecodyed scarfes that they will be sell in the museumshop! So that's great news! In the same spirit I am going to give a workshop in october of this year at the Textile Museum where I will teach everything you need to know about how to dye with Eucalyptus, If you would like to join, you can register at this site here you can find more about what the program of the workshop is!

I have also been invited by Museum de Paviljoens to showcase my sowing jewelry and picknickblanket at the event 100xSUMMERDESIGN Almere at sunday june 6! So that already upcoming sunday!

Eco eucalyptus dyed collection!

It has been hard work long hours and lack of weekends, but my first pieces for the super eco collection are done, and they have been on display during the designweek in Eindhoven (holland).
I'm specially proud of this collection because I've paid attention to every little detail with as a result a collection that makes sense in every detail!

This has resulted in a collection ecological blankets, decorative pillows and scarfs dyed with use of the plant eucalyptus. I called this collection "Leaves Impression" because of the use of the leaves of eucalyptus as a dye and as a printmaking medium troughout the whole collection. I've created plain colors as well as prints.

The unexpected colors from the leaves have as an additional feature that the fixation of color is not necessary because the dye from the plant material bonds very well with fabrics resulting in lasting colors. This makes dyeing with eucalyptus very environmentally friendly. Not only the amount of water and materials used for dyeing are low, the lack of toxic additives in the dye bath also make it possible to dispose of the water without harm for nature. The plant material can be composted and serve as compost for other plants. This makes the plant a versatile and environmentally friendly alternative to natural dyes that need chemical or toxic additives to produce lasting color.

Currently this collection consists of high quality organic wool-velours pillows
and pillows of Antung-silk, a type of silk for which no silkworms are killed.
The pillows are stuffed with carded organic kapok. The backsides of the cushions
have mother-of-pearl or wooden buttons.
The scarves are of a wonderful quality very thinly woven organic wool and Antung-silk. And as icing on the cake there has been made sure that the labels on this collection are also as environmentally friendly as possible!
this collection can also be seen on my website, there is on this moment only dutch text but there will come english text soon. If you want to know more right away, email me!

I already did a fotoshoot with my model and I also have some photo's of my presentation at the desingweek event Meesterlijk where I first showed this collection to the public. So here some nice pics!

And here is the finished stand. Not a lot of space but I managed it well.

And last but centainly not least I want to thank a special person without whom I never could have done this all, India flint, thank you for teaching me how I could eco dye fabrics with Eucalyptus and other plants and learning me the so very important basics! Thanks for everything! Be sure to check out her site and see what kind of magic she makes with eco-dyeing.

And last but not least, wil ik even een speciaal persoon bedanken zonder wie ik deze hele collectie nooit had kunnen maken, India Flint dankjewel dat je me hebt geleerd hoe ik ecologische en natuurlijk kon verven met verschillende planten waaronder eucalyptus, en door het me leren van de o zo nodige basis van het verven, dankjewel voor alles! bekijk ook zeker eens haar site en wat India allemaal doet met ecologisch verven.

Super-eco collection coming up!

It's been a while since I posted new things on my blog, but there is a good reason! I'm very busy working for the designfair Meesterlijk during the dutch designweek in Eindhoven (the netherlands). It has been crazy and to be honest, it still is! I'm going to present an ecological dyed collection of scarfs, decorative pillows and beautiful lamwoolen blankets. It will all be dyed with eucalyptus, just to show the versatility of this plant. The used textiles and fillings are all ecological. The textiles I am using are, animal frienly silk and ecological wool and cotton. The special thing about this collection is that I'm inventing new techniques for creating prints and dessins, so that's also very exciting! All together it's going to be super-eco collection, even the label with my name on it is going to be eco! I really am trying to finish it on time to show all the new and exciting things at the designfair! So when you're interested in visiting the fair, please do! I will also be selling some items at the fair! So be welcome and enjoy the fruit of all my hard labour at the designfair "Meesterlijk". The fair is from 22th of october till sunday the 25th of oktober check for more info their site. And for all the people that don't have the chance to visit, after the fair I will be selling this collection on internet and at different store's so don't be sad! In a short while more about this all!

eco chemie

I recently bought my very own copy of India Flint's book, Eco Colour. I was so happy when it was delivered. I've have read almost the whole book now (and i'm not a quick reader). It's such a beautiful book to look into and it's so full of knowledge! It's like an eco colour bible. I recommend everyone who does anything with dyeing fabric to buy this book, it will pay back in knowledge!

I already tried out some things. I bought on the market in Rotterdam some interesting red leaves. When i came home i looked them up in my big plant bible (handy remains from my florist education). And found out that it is in latin "cotinus coggygria 'royal purple' " from the family Anacardiaceae in dutch it is called "pruikenboom" which literally means wigs-tree (as in fake hair) hihi.

I did a test to see if there was some interesting things to be substracted, and there was a magic red-ish pink in there.

After that i tried one of the methodes from the book and sucsesfully substracted color from my leaffy friends, the final result was quiet dark red. I diluted it with different kinds of mordants and poured into empty jars. The colour changed with the different mordants. The super bright red-ish pink has vinigar as mordant, the greenish looking one is with ash water and the blue-ish one is with a pinch of alum and water. I put some premordanted cotton and some woolyarn in all jars and closed the lids. Now it's just waiting for a nice result! On to the next project!

super verf dag!

The past week was a busy week. I went back to Utrecht to retrieve my work that has been displayed in a exhibition in the Bijenkorf store. I worked on my second job as a host of a exhibition in Rotterdam. And i worked hard on numurous other things. Finally I found some time to spend a whole day textile painting. I decided to do that at my parents marvelous garden! This so i could spend some qualitytime with them and also to have no distractions as email and other things that need to be done. It really paid of to do that, my parents an their garden gave me so much inspiration that i made a lot of beautiful textiles. Below a impression of the results of the day.
