I don't have a lot of time to write this, but I wanted to let you know that tomorrow I will be having an opening of a new exhibition in Amsterdam of my newest collection "leaves Impression"! I'm very excited about it, and I will let you know more soon! Soon I'm also going to post some pictures off my meetup with interesting designer Daniela Pais. When I have a little more time I will post about a lot of interesting things I've been doing! So soon more!

Ik heb niet veel tijd om deze post te schrijven maar ik wilde toch even laten weten dat ik morgen een opening heb van een nieuwe tentoonstelling waar ik aan meedoe waar mijn nieuwste serie "leaves Impression"te zien zal zijn, in Amsterdam. Ik ben er erg enthousiast over, ik zal er binnenkort meer over vertellen! Ik zal ook binnenkort ook een aantal interessante foto's posten van mijn ontmoeting met interessante ontwerpster Daniela Pais! Beyond green 2009

On monday the 9th of november I did my second exhibition of the newest collection "leaves Impression" during a symposium called "beyond green" at the "International Fashion Centre" in Amsterdam. It was a very interesting day, lot's of interesting speakers and it was also nice to talk with the other artists present there. Here are some pictures off that day. Also some other sites and blogs reported about this exhibition so take a look on the other sites from which most of them also have some images from my newest collection. It was a fun day and it is always fun to work with Ingrid and Annouk who where the organisers of this exhibition.

Op maandag 9 november heb ik mijn tweede expositie van mijn nieuwste collectie "leaves Impression" gedaan gedurende het symposium "Beyond Green" in het "International Fashion Centre" in Amsterdam. Het was een erg intressante dag, veel intressante sprekers en het was ook erg leuk om te praten met de andere ontwerpers aanwezig daar. Hieronder een aantal foto's van de dag. Een aantal andere sites en blogs hebben ook geschreven over deze expositie dus kijk vooral ook even naar de volgende links, hier staan in de meeste gevallen ook foto's van mijn collectie. Kortom het was een leuke dag en ik vond het leuk om weer eens met Ingrid en Annouk te werken, zij hebben ervoor gezorgd dat de expostitie er zo mooi uit zag, als organisatoren hebben ze mooi werk verricht. En binnenkort verschijnt er weer een nieuwe column bij hetmediaplein.nl. Daarover later meer!

Eco eucalyptus dyed collection!

It has been hard work long hours and lack of weekends, but my first pieces for the super eco collection are done, and they have been on display during the designweek in Eindhoven (holland).
I'm specially proud of this collection because I've paid attention to every little detail with as a result a collection that makes sense in every detail!

This has resulted in a collection ecological blankets, decorative pillows and scarfs dyed with use of the plant eucalyptus. I called this collection "Leaves Impression" because of the use of the leaves of eucalyptus as a dye and as a printmaking medium troughout the whole collection. I've created plain colors as well as prints.

The unexpected colors from the leaves have as an additional feature that the fixation of color is not necessary because the dye from the plant material bonds very well with fabrics resulting in lasting colors. This makes dyeing with eucalyptus very environmentally friendly. Not only the amount of water and materials used for dyeing are low, the lack of toxic additives in the dye bath also make it possible to dispose of the water without harm for nature. The plant material can be composted and serve as compost for other plants. This makes the plant a versatile and environmentally friendly alternative to natural dyes that need chemical or toxic additives to produce lasting color.

Currently this collection consists of high quality organic wool-velours pillows
and pillows of Antung-silk, a type of silk for which no silkworms are killed.
The pillows are stuffed with carded organic kapok. The backsides of the cushions
have mother-of-pearl or wooden buttons.
The scarves are of a wonderful quality very thinly woven organic wool and Antung-silk. And as icing on the cake there has been made sure that the labels on this collection are also as environmentally friendly as possible!

Het was hard werken, lange uren en een gebrek aan weekends, maar mijn eerste stukken voor de super eco collectie zijn klaar, en ze zijn gepresenteerd tijdens de designweek in Eindhoven.
Ik ben erg blij met deze collectie omdat ik heb gelet op elk klein detail zodat deze collectie helemaal naar mijn zin is en klopt!

Dit heeft geresulteerd in een collectie ecologische dekens, kussens en sjaals geverfd met behulp van de plant eucalyptus. Ik heb deze collectie "leaves Impression" genoemd oftewel laat indruk achter met als dubbele betekenis aan het woord "leaves" wat ook vertaald kan worden als bladeren. Dit omdat ik voor de gehele collectie de bladeren van de plant eucalyptus heb gebruikt als verfstof om egale kleuringen alsook prints te creeren.

De onverwachte kleuren afkomstig van de zilvergrijze bladeren hebben als extra eigenschap dat deze niet hoeven te worden gefixeerd, doordat de plantkleurstof uit zichzelf al heel goed hecht. Dit maakt dat het verven met eucalyptus heel milieuvriendelijk is. Niet alleen is het water- en materiaal-verbruik laag, door het ontbreken van giftige toevoegingen in het verfbad kan het gebruikte water zonder gevaar terug in de natuur en het gebruikte plantmateriaal gecomposteerd worden en tot nieuwe voeding worden veranderd. Dit maakt deze plant tot een veelzijdig en milieuvriendelijk alternatief voor natuurlijke verfstoffen die chemisch moeten worden gefixeerd.

De huidige vorm van deze collectie bestaat uit kussens van hoge kwaliteit ecologische wol-velours en ecologische en diervriendelijke zijde (antung-zijde) (dit is een type zijde waarvoor de zijderups niet levend hoeft te worden gekookt zoals bij reguliere zijde). De vulling van de kussens bestaat uit ecologische gekaarde kapok, de achterzijden van de kussens zijn voorzien van parelmoeren of houten knopen. De sjaals zijn van een prachtige kwaliteit zeer dun geweven ecologische wol en (antung-zijde). En als kers op te taart is ervoor gezorgd dat alle labels waar naam en merk op staan, ook ecologisch verantwoord zijn.

Super-eco collection coming up!

It's been a while since I posted new things on my blog, but there is a good reason! I'm very busy working for the designfair Meesterlijk during the dutch designweek in Eindhoven (the netherlands). It has been crazy and to be honest, it still is! I'm going to present an ecological dyed collection of scarfs, decorative pillows and beautiful lamwoolen blankets. It will all be dyed with eucalyptus, just to show the versatility of this plant. The used textiles and fillings are all ecological. The textiles I am using are, animal frienly silk and ecological wool and cotton. The special thing about this collection is that I'm inventing new techniques for creating prints and dessins, so that's also very exciting! All together it's going to be super-eco collection, even the label with my name on it is going to be eco! I really am trying to finish it on time to show all the new and exciting things at the designfair! So when you're interested in visiting the fair, please do! I will also be selling some items at the fair! So be welcome and enjoy the fruit of all my hard labour at the designfair "Meesterlijk". The fair is from 22th of october till sunday the 25th of oktober check for more info their site. And for all the people that don't have the chance to visit, after the fair I will be selling this collection on internet and at different store's so don't be sad! In a short while more about this all!

Het is alweer een tijdje geleden sinds ik ik wat nieuws op mijn blog heb gezet, maar er is een goeie reden! Ik ben namelijk erg hard aan het werk voor de designbeurs "Meesterlijk" tijdens de dutch design week in Eindhoven. Het is echt ontzettend druk geweest en om eerlijk te zijn, ik heb het nog steeds heel erg druk! Ik ga op de beurs een collectie van ecologisch geverfde sjaals kussens en dekens presenteren. Ik verf alles zonder chemicaliën en met Eucalyptus als kleurstof, om de veelzijdigheid van deze plant te laten zien. De gebruikte materialen zijn allemaal ecologisch. De stoffen die ik gebruik zijn diervriendelijke en ecologische zijde en ecologische wol en katoen. Het speciale aan deze collectie is dat ik nieuwe technieken aan het uitvinden ben om prints en dessins op de stoffen te maken, dus dat is erg spannend, ook voor mij! Alles bij elkaar word het een super-eco collectie, want zelfs het label met mijn naam is ecologisch! Ik probeer heel hard om deze collectie op tijd af te krijgen! Als dit je nieuwsgierigheid heeft geprikkeld kom dan zeker even kijken op deze beurs! Ik ga namelijk ook een aantal producten verkopen! De beurs is van 22 t/m 25 oktober in Eindhoven. Als je meer wilt weten kijk dan even op hun site. en niet getreurd als je geen kans ziet langs te komen in Eindhoven, achteraf ga ik deze collectie ook op internet verkopen en bij verschillende winkels, maar daarover later meer!

Second Skin!

After a hectic week I'm finally ready to show you the results of the fotoshoot I did with the new jewellery collection! The jewellery collection is a limited collection what means if the leather I have is gone, It's gone! The collection is called "Second Skin" referring to the material I have used (leather) and the second purpose of the material. This because the collection is made of recycled leather from a furniture company. It is combined with other jewellery material to make it complete. My intentions where to make a mix and match collection so that everyone has a unique necklace or set of earrings, every piece of leather is unique and also because of the different sizes it is possibles to make thousands of combinations suiting your mood, outfit or personality! I'm very satisfied with the result!
Even more good news is that the collection is already sold to Hetgroenewarenhuis.nl! It will be soon on diplay and for sale there! In the future the collection will also be for sale on my own site and maybe on a few other locations, I'm still working on that! Here are the results of the fotoshoot with the beautiful model Brechje! Thanks Brechje you are the best!

Na een hectische week ben ik eindelijk klaar om het resultaat van de sieraden fotoshoot te laten zien! De sieraden collectie heet "second skin" en is een limited edition wat betekend als het leer wat ik heb op is, is het op! De naam "second skin" refereert aan het gebruikte materiaal, leer, en het tweede leven van het leer. Het gebruikte leer bestaat namelijk uit snij resten afkomstig van een meubelfabriek. Dit is gecombineerd met verschillende andere materialen om het tot een complete collectie te maken. Mijn bedoeling was om sieraden serie te maken waarmee je vele combinaties kon maken zodat je voor iedere outfit en karakter, je ketting of oorbellen kunt aanpassen. Doordat elk stuk van deze serie uniek is heeft niemand precies dezelfde ketting of oorbellen en kun je eindeloos variëren, door de verschillende groottes van de aparte stukken is het ook mogelijk om verschillende stukken met elkaar te combineren. Kortom een leuke en mooie veelzijdige serie! Ik ben heel tevreden met het resultaat! En nog leuker is dat er al een groot deel verkocht is aan hetgroenewarenhuis.nl! Dit betekend dat je binnenkort al je eigen ketting kunt samenstellen en kunt kopen bij hen! In de toekomst is het ook mogelijk om de serie ook te kopen via mijn eigen site en wellicht ook op andere verkooppunten, daar ben ik nu hard voor bezig! nieuwe sieraden in aantocht!

Last week was interesting. Last week during the meeting with the owners of hetgroenewarenhuis.nl they mentioned that they could not find any nice eco or recycle accessoires for their new collection of eco clothes. After this interesting meeting we agreed that I would try to make some nice accessoires for their new collection. When I returned home I already had some nice idea's for some jewellery pieces and started working. I managed to design and make it all in one week! I Designed it with the new clothing collection in mind. The focal point in this jewellery collection is the recycled leather I used. It is a simple, versatile and fun collection. I'm very proud of the result! I presented the jewellery at the fittingparty of the new collection managed by the owners. The owners and public where very enthusiastic! After already selling some items at the fitting-party they decided it would be nice to sell the collection through their website. I agreed and now i'm just finishing the last tid-bits, like ordering small labels with my brand and some nice packaging.
During the week in which I was busy designing and making the jewellery I had to travel a lot by train and I also did a lot by bike and, believe it or not, by boat! (so dutch! with my bike on a small boat to visit a local sail locker). Here are some photo's of this hard working week + some sneak previews of the collection! Tomorrow, just to finish it off, I will be doing a photoshoot with a model wearing the pieces. I will show those pictures later! To show the fruit of my labour !

Vorige week was een interessante week. Tijdens de eerdere afspraak met de eigenaren Jitske en Marco van hetgroenewarenhuis.nl vertelden ze me dat ze nog geen leuke ecologische of gerecyclede accessoires konden vinden voor hun nieuwe eco kledingcollectie. Tijdens de ontmoeting kwamen we tot een besluit dat ik een begin zou maken aan een collectie accessoires voor hetgroenewarenhuis.nl. Op weg terug van die ontmoeting had ik al een aantal leuke ideeën en eenmaal thuis ben ik gelijk aan de slag gegaan. Ik heb het voor elkaar gekregen alles te ontwerpen en maken in één week! Ik heb de collectie gemaakt met de nieuwe kleding collectie in m'n achterhoofd. De focus van de collectie is het gerecycled leer wat ik heb gebruikt. De serie is simpel veelzijdig te gebruiken en vooral heel leuk! Ik ben heel erg tevreden met de sieraden. Ik heb de serie gepresenteerd tijdens het grote pasfeest van de nieuwe collectie verzorgd door de eigenaren. De eigenaren en het publiek waren heel enthousiast! Na al wat items te hebben verkocht tijdens het pasfeest hebben de eigenaren besloten de sieraden te gaan verkopen via hun site. Nu ben ik alleen nog bezig met kleine dingetjes om het helemaal af te maken zoals kleine merkjes bestellen en verpakkingen.
Tijdens de week waarin ik bezig was met het ontwerpen van de nieuwe sieraden ben ik veel onderweg geweest, met de trein op de fiets, en geloof het of niet, ook met de boot! (hoe hollands kan het zijn, met m'n fiets op een bootje op weg naar een lokale zeilmakerij). Morgen zal ik bezig zijn met een fotoshoot van de nieuwe collectie met een model, dus wanneer ik die foto's heb zal ik ze zeker laten zien en dan kan je zien waar ik zo hard aan heb gewerkt!

back to business

After the lovely week in "Plum Village" it's back to business, my own business to be precise! I've started to work for a big event, the meesterlijk design fair in Eindhoven (netherlands). There I will show my latest collection in a stand with 10 former schoolmates. I want to show some exciting stuff, so that made me decide to step it up. In that spirit I did a very first business trip to two events. I arranged to visit the eco fabric webshop neidig, so I went to meet the owner and the collection of fabrics. I tried to make my trip more efficient so I also arranged a meeting in Utrecht with the people behind hetgroenewarenhuis.nl (the green warehouse) because they already showed interest in my collection of accessoires. So my very first buisness-trip was born, and I had a blast!

Na een geweldige week in "Plum Village" is het weer aan het werk, aan mijn eigen bedrijfje wel te verstaan! Ik ben begonnen voor te bereiden en te werken voor een groot evenement, namelijk de design beurs meesterlijk in Eindhoven. Daar zal ik mijn komende collectie laten zien in een stand met tien andere voormalige schoolgenoten van de HKU, dit heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ik even een versnelling hoger werk vanaf nu. Als gevolg hiervan heb ik gisteren mijn allereerste zakenreisje ooit gemaakt. Ik had er voor gezorgd dat ik langs kon gaan bij de eco stoffen webshop neidig om de eigenares te ontmoeten en eens de collectie stoffen te bekijken en inkopen te doen voor de komende collectie. Om het reisje wat meer rendabel te maken besloot ik een afspraak te maken met de mensen achter hetgroenewarenhuis.nl ze hadden me namelijk al eerder benaderd omdat ze geïnteresseerd waren in mijn werk en accessoires. Ik besloot dit op dezelfde dag te plannen zodat ik mijn treinreis dubbel kon benutten en geen tijd zou verspillen. Hiermee was mijn allereerste zakenreisje een feit! En het was heel leuk!

Both appointments went great and I had a wonderful time. It also was very useful I finally have the materials I need to make my new collection from neidig eco fabrics and I also made some new plans with the people of "hetgroenewarenhuis" They have their first fittingparty for customers of their new collection next week and i'm also invited. I might even show some new accessoires! So if you also want to see their new collection or my new accessoires please let "hetgroenewarenhuis" know and you will be more then welcome to join in and enjoy!
After this long day I returned home, quite tired but very happy. On my way home I made some pictures of interesting and nice things. So enjoy and I will tell you more in a little while!


Beide afspraken verliepen heel goed en ik had echt een leuke dag. Het was ook erg nuttig, ik heb uiteindelijk bij neidig eco textiel alle materialen die ik nodig had voor de komende collectie gekocht of besteld en heb ook gelijk wat nieuwe plannen gemaakt met de mensen van hetgroenewarenhuis.nl. Ze hebben volgende week ook een groot pasfeest waar iedereen de nieuwe collectie kan passen en proberen, ik ben ook uitgenodigd en ik laat waarschijnlijk ook accessoires zien die bijpassend zijn! Dus als je daar ook graag bij bent, geef je op bij "hetgroenewarenhuis" en je bent dan zeker welkom!
Na deze lange dag ging ik moe maar voldaan richting huis. Op weg naar huis heb ik nog wat foto's gemaakt van interessante mooie dingen. Binnenkort zal ik meer vertellen!

Plum village!

I'm back from my last trip for now, and it was very interesting! Me and my sister stayed at a vietnamese zen buddhist monastery called "plum village" in the south of france for a week, to take part in a youth retreat. There I practiced mindfullness meditations (in all it's forms), listened to interesting talks of monks and nuns, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and talked a lot with other young people. The monastery is located in a beautiful place with lot's of nature, they even have their own lotus pond! I had a lot of fun with the monks and nuns, I've learned a lot about myself and I'm very happy to have been there. So next year I think I'll visit the sweet monks and nuns again! Ik ben terug van mijn voorlopig laatste reis, en het was erg interessant! Ik ben samen met mijn zus naar een vietnamees zen boeddhistisch klooster geweest in het zuiden van frankrijk, het klooster heet "plum village". Ik en mijn zus namen daar deel aan een jeugd retraite van een week. Tijdens de retraite heb ik mindfullness meditaties beoefend (in al zijn vormen), geluisterd naar interessante presentaties van de monniken en nonnen, genoten van de prachtige natuur en ik heb veel gekletst met de andere deelnemers. Het klooster is gevestigd in een prachtig gebied met heel veel natuur, ze hebben zelfs hun eigen lotusvijver! Ik heb veel lol gehad met de monniken en nonnen, ik heb veel over mezelf geleerd en ben ik erg blij dat ik er ben geweest. Dus waarschijnlijk bezoek ik de lieve nonnen en monniken volgend jaar wel weer! Ze hebben ook een leuke website die je kunt bezoeken.

Just got back from a short trip to Paris, where me and my boyfriend had a wonderfull time. We had a very nice hotel in Monmartre with a stunning view over paris. It was sunny and very hot, but we had a blast visiting shops, museums, going to the local carnival and to the cinema, and ofcourse eating lovely food!

Ben terug van een reisje naar Parijs, waar ik en mijn vriend het geweldig hebben gehad. We hadden een heel fijn hotel in Monmartre met geweldig uitzicht over Parijs. Het was zonnig en heel warm, maar we hebben het heel erg naar ons zin gehad we bezochten winkeltjes en musea, zijn naar de plaatselijke kermis en bioscoop gegaan en zijn heerlijk uit eten gegaan!
